Carnaval de Cadíz

When I think of a Carnival, what I saw yesterday is not what comes in to my mind. The whole city was very crowded, but we were prepared for that. I guess we just didn't expect that how crowded it could be. It was impossible to walk into any direction and if you wanted to get somewhere, the only option was to just push people away as hard as you could.

First it took us pretty long to find  a grocery store. We needed some drinks and we needed to hurry because the grocery stores would run out of alcohol during Carnival. After getting our drinks it took us again very long to find a place to eat at. Everybody was getting cranky, especially me, but after we had dinner, everybody was feeling better. After dinner we tried to look for a place to hang out at. Well there were people everywhere and it's not nice to hang out at a place where you can't even turn around because it's so crowded. We decided to go hang out next to the Ocean. It was a bit cool but at least it was not as crowded as everywhere else.

We got to Cadíz at about 6pm and our bus back left after 5am. All of us were ready to go home at 1am already but we needed to just chill and wait. After 2am we went to a kebab place to hang out, because people were hungry again, the restaurant was warm and it had a bathroom. They didn't let people in the restaurants but a mother of a friend who was there with us, got us in to one.

When we were walking through the most crowded are after 2am, it was still quite as crowded but on top of that very nasty. The ground was all wet and sticky. The ground was wet from all the drinks, there was broken glass everywhere, peoples broken costumes were on the ground, and there was a lot of trash everywhere. Here and there you could see passed out people on the ground, lying on the wet ground that was covered with puke, glass and trash. No body seemed to care. I hope all these people survived.

On our way back we dropped my roommate off at the airport. Now I need to learn to survive on my own. I appreciate all the help I got from here. I don't know if I could have survived this first month without her.

I don't have that many pictures of the carnival because my only camera is my iPhone and my battery was dying and also it didn't feel safe having your phone out in such a big crowd.

Oh yeah, and my roommate won a bottle of Cava with her outfit. She wasn't able to take the bottle with her and we did not drink it last night so now I have the bottle now. Feel welcome to come empty the bottle with me.

Käsitteestä Karnevaalit tulee kyllä jotain ihan muunlaisia mielikuvia kun se mitä näin eilen. Koko kaupunki oli täynnä ihmisiä, mutta siihen olimme valmistautuneet. Emme vaan osanneet odottaa minkälaiset mittakaavat väenpaljous voi saada. Oli mahdotonta kävellä mihinkään suuntaan ja jos jonnekin halusi mennä niin ainoa vaihtoeto oli töniä ihmisiä pois tieltä niin kovaa kun pystyi. 

Ensiksi meillä kesti aika kauan löyhtää ruokakauppa. Tarvitsimme juotavaa ja meidän piti kiirehtiä koska karnevaalien aikaan alkoholi loppuu kaupoista kesken. Kun olimme juomamme ostaneet, meni meillä taas paljon aikaa siihe että löysimme ruokapaikan. Kaikki alkoivat jo olemaan kiukkuisia, etenkin minä, mutta ruoan jälkeen kaikilla oli parempi mieli. Ruoan jälkeen yritimme löytää paikkaa jossa voisimme hengailla. No ihmisiä oli joka paikassa ja ei ole kivaa viettää aikaa paikassa jossa ei pysty edes ympäri kääntymään kun ihmisiä on niin paljon. Päätimme mennä meren viereen viettämään aikaa. Paikka oli hieman viileämpi mutta ihmisiä ei ainakaan ollut niin paljoa kuin muualla. 

Olimme perillä Cadízissa noin klo 18 ja bussi takaisinpäin lähti 5.00. Kaikki meistä oli valmiita lähtemään kotiin jo aamu 1 pintaan mutta täytyi vain odottaa. 2 jälkeen menimme kebab paikkaan hengailemaan, koska ihmisillä oli jo taas nälkä, ravintolassa oli lämmin ja siellä oli myös vessa. Ihmisiä ei laskettu sisään ravintoloihin mutta erään kaverin äiti joka oli meidän mukana sai meidät puhuttua sisään.  

Kun kävellimme kaikkein ruuhkaisimmat kaupunginosan läpi aamu 2 jälkeen, oli se lähes yhtä täynnä edelleen, mutta lisäksi vielä hyvin iljettävä. Maa oli märkä ja tahmainen. Maa oli märkä kaikista juomista, rikkinäistä lasia oli jokapuolella, ihmisetn rikkinäiset asut lojuivat maassa ja joka puolella oli paljon roskaa. Siellä täällä oli sammuneita ihmisiä maassa makaamassa märällä kadulla joka oli oksennuksen, lasin ja roskan peitossa. Kukaan ei tuntunut välittävän. Toivon että kaikki nämä ihmiset selvisivät.   

Paluu matkalla jätimme kämppikseni lentokentälle. Nyt minun täytyy oppia selviytymään yksin. Arvostan kaikkea sitä apua mitä häneltä sain. En tiedä miten olisin tämän esimmäisen kuukauden selvinnyt ilman häntä. 

Kuvia karnevaaleilta minulla ei ole kovinkaan montaa, koska ainoa kamerani on iPhoneni josta oli akku lopussa ja ei myöskään tuntunut kovin turvalliselta pitää koko ajan puhelinta esillä tuossa väenpaljoudessa.  

Ainiin, ja kämppikseni voitti pullon Cavaa asullaan. Hän ei pystynyt ottamaan pulloa mukaan ja emme juoneet sitä viimeyönä joten pullo on nyt minulla. Tervetuloa tyhjentämään sitä kanssani.
